New Mexico officials contend that at least 60% of the Permian Basin oil and gas operations they inspected were in violation of EPA air quality standards. The New Mexico Environment Department announced the results of a six-month inspection initiative done in partnership with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. It found 75 of the 124 facilities
